Do you need to talk through some issues and you feel you have no one to turn to? You are not alone!
Communicare's Counselling and Referral Service is here to help you through! The service runs on Mondays and Wednesdays with members of the community welcome to book in for a one hour session by either referring themselves or being referred to the service by other agencies such as Centrelink, the Department of Education and Training and the Department of Child Protection.
The service can assist people with the following issues:
Relationship Breakdowns: Building more satisfying or rewarding relationships, or exploring issues associated with relationship breakdown, includes individual or couples counselling.
Anxiety: Exploring events in life that may lead to feeling stressed and that develop into a state of anxiousness. Stress in day to day life in small doses keeps us energized and interested. In large doses, and if left untreated, stress may become anxiety and be harder to deal with alone.
Depression: Feeling low or sadness are normal occurrences in life, but these feelings can also linger on and become disruptive to normal life. Other symptoms may also present such as energy levels begin to fall, sleep may become disturbed, changes in appetite and eating patterns can occur, motivation can dwindle. There may be weight loss or weight gain. Withdrawal from friends, family and from normal activities may begin to occur. Of course, all of the things referred to above are relative, but they may occur to a greater or to a lesser extent if a person is depressed.
Sense of Self: This includes assisting in trying to make sense of your own feelings, behaviour, and relationships, self esteem and self value, and exploring different possibilities about your situation and the opportunity to create real change in your life
The service is provided to low income or disadvantaged families with fees being as small as a gold coin donation up to $30 per session, dependent upon individual circumstances.
The service has been provided in partnership with Curtin University for over 10 years. Curtin University provides Psychology Counsellor Interns who are completing a Masters in Counselling and Psychology. This partnership assists the Psychology Counsellor Intern by providing them with professional opportunities for employment.
