Subject: First Click First Timers

Date:12 November 2008

Communicare 'graduated' 17 students of the First Click program, an introductory IT course for people new to computers, with a presentation of certificates at a graduation ceremony held early this month.

With the average student age of 70 and five in their 80's, the students did not feel that age was any barrier to their learning.

Communicare's CEO, Martine Pitt said that the students enthusiastically rose to the challenge of using a computer for the very first time.

"Once the students mastered the art of using a mouse, they eagerly waited for their next session of 'computer complexity', overcoming the trials and tribulations of using a computer, she said.

"To take on such a learning curve is an inspiration to all others in their mature years", she said.

The first stage of the eight week course is designed to increase understanding and confidence of students to equip them with skills and knowledge of computer software. The second stage of the course exposes students to the internet and emails. This is to encourage the students to communicate online with others.
