Aylin started to attend our Multicultural Playgroup when her first child was four months old. She was suffering from post-natal depression, was very withdrawn and made little contact with the other women in the group.
Each week Aylin attended playgroup where she slowly began to talk a little with others, but life was still a struggle. She was finding parenting difficult and not finding a lot of joy in being a mum and when she became pregnant with her second child she continued her struggled continued.
When Aylin joined Communicare's Popcorn Group life began to look a bit different. She offered to run an activity on "how to save money" with shopping and started a chain of information which she posted on the groups WhatsApp page.
Aylin was just excellent at hunting down bargains and keeping everyone informed. During the "how to save money" activity, another parent shared with the group how she budgeted and programmed her meals and organised her pantry. Aylin took this on board and posted photos of her newly sorted pantry and meal menus.
Over the past few months, Aylin has organised outings, posted events, suggested we bring food to discussion groups and generally been a mainstay of the Popcorn group along with her new best buddy Jessica.
This is such a wonderful story of how the work we do makes such a positive impact to people's lives. Well done to Dee and the rest of the Individual and Family Support Services Team.
