Celebrating all things families during National Families Week

National Families Week is a time to celebrate with family, connect with extended family and friends, and share in the enjoyment of family activities within the wider community.

This week is National Families Week (15-21 May) and Communicare is celebrating all things families!

National Families Week is a time to celebrate with family, connect with extended family and friends, and share in the enjoyment of family activities within the wider community.

Check out what some of our Teams got up to during National Families Week:

'Find out about Families': Family Day Care distributes family-themed activity packs

Here at Communicare, we recognise the importance of families and the vital role they play in society. At the heart of our commitment to support families in all their diversity is our Family Day Care (FDC) service.

Communicare has delivered Family Day Care (FDC) service to families for nearly 40 years. We currently have 19 registered FDC Educators who provide safe, educational, inclusive and nurturing learning environments to children from their own home and flexible care options including part-time, full-time, before and after school, vacation and weekend overnight care.

In light of National Families Week, our FDC Support Team have created special family-themed activity packs to encourage FDC Educators in raising awareness of this important week and to support them in delivering fun, themed-learning activities with children.

One of our FDC Educator, Sneha, along with Education Support Officer, Emma and Administration Officer, Sweta, read the "Find out about Families" story book with a group of children and discussed with them what they like about their family.

One child excitedly told them "My mummy is having a baby and I want a baby brother and a baby sister!"

We had so much fun in sharing stories about our families!

Family Fun Day with Communicare's Communities for Children (CfC) and the City of Gosnells

Last Saturday 15 May, Communicare's Communities for Children (CfC) Team facilitated a fantastic family fun day event in partnership with the City of Gosnells to celebrate National Families Week.

Hosted at Centennial Park, families came together to enjoy a beautiful afternoon filled with music, dancing, and a range of sensory and fun activities

Highlights of the day include an interactive drumming circle experience with Akwaaba African Drumming and a free BBQ thanks to Gosnells Lions Club.

One of CfC's key objectives is to support events that highlight and support the rights of children and families across our community.

The event celebrated the diversity of families across our community and provided a great opportunity for cross-service collaboration with Parkerville Children and Youth Services; Gosnells Lions Club as well as Communicare's Inclusion Support.

It was great to see not only staff engaging with families, but also mini Communicare staff (staff kids) taking initiative in handing out flyers and fruit to event participants!

To the stars and back this National Simultaneous Storytime with Communicare's Individual and Family Support Service (IFSS) Team

To celebrate National Families Week, the Individual and Family Support Services (IFSS) Team participated in the National Simultaneous Storytime on Wednesday 19 May to help encourage the enjoyment of reading for both parents, grandparents and carers with their children.

Communicare's IFSS Team in Cannington was one of 25,500 places and locations who shared in reading the book "Give Me Some Space!" by Philip Bunting. This event complemented the regular Family Rhyme Time session held by the IFSS Team every Monday from 9.30am to 10.15am during term time at 28 Cecil Avenue, Cannington. This program focuses on educating the local community about the importance of reading, talking, singing and playing for families with young children, from babies to five years of age.

For further information on this program please contact Melanie from Individual and Family Support Services (IFSS) at

This is yet another inspiring example of a strong National partnership and working together to support parents and children within our community!
