Communicare introduces Choose Change

City of Armadale welcomes two new services in the area of domestic violence prevention

News
Following successful grants approved by the Department of Social Services, families and Children, the city of Armadale is due to host two new services tailored to domestic violence perpetrators – one of which includes, Choose Change.

This innovative program will be the first of its kind in Western Australia and forms as part of the Specialised Family and Domestic Violence Perpetrator Response team – a coordinated plan connecting perpetrators and facilitating links to crisis intervention services.

Delivered in coordination with the West Australian Police, Department of Communities Child Protection and RUAH Womens support services, this program engages directly with individuals who demonstrate attitudes and behaviours that damage respectful relationships or have been identified as a person of interest in Family Domestic Violence matters.

Choose Change will operate using a collaborative based approach where participants and facilitators will work closely together in risk assessments and safety planning, whilst embedding fundamental tools to improving behaviour.

Like existing services such as our Breathing Space, Choose Change predominantly relies on the participants’ willingness to cooperate and adapt – marking step one of the behavioural change process and paves the way for additional access to support including individual counselling and workshops.

Choose Change will be a valuable addition to the longstanding work Communicare has facilitated in the Armadale community running until mid-June 2022.
