In late October 2020, Communicare Financial Counsellor Victoria Shakeshaft, received the State award for Developing Practice at the Financial Counsellors' Association of Western Australia (FCAWA) annual conference.
The event was held at the Pan Pacific Hotel and included Financial Counsellors from metropolitan, regional and rural areas of Western Australia, as well as members from the Financial Counsellors' Network.
The annual award is assigned to a Financial Counsellor who has been in practice for under two years and this year, it was presented by the Honourable Simone McGurk - Minister for Child Protection; Women's Interests; Prevention of Family and Domestic Violence; Community Services.
Recipients are chosen based on the following criterias:
- Skills and knowledge
- Enthusiasm for the profession
- Ability to provide support to fellow financial counsellors
- Ethical conduct
Victoria's nomination primarily acknowledged her contribution in both the Financial Counselling Network and Financial Counsellors' Association of Western Australia which has enabled her to create and share learning opportunities for both her clients and colleagues. Additionally, it also referenced articles she'd written for the Financial Counselling Network on trending topics over the course of the year.
Along with her team, the work Victoria does with our community provide our clients with the financial literacy skills and confidence to build themselves a future full of hope and optimism - and this award is a true reflection of that.
A fantastic achievement for which we are very proud of and on behalf of Communicare, we'd like to congratulate Victoria!
Here's what Victoria had to say:
"I am honoured and delighted to have received such an esteemed award and feel so lucky to be supported and encouraged by my team and other staff at Communicare, as well as my colleagues at the Financial Counselling Network and the broader Financial Counselling community in Western Australia. I am forever grateful to my mentor Robert Evans and professional supervisor Kerrie Birch for their ongoing guidance and advice."
