International Women's Day on March 8th marked a global day of celebration to recognise the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women and young girls in our society.

The International Women's Day 2019 campaign theme of #BalanceforBetter was a call-to-action for driving gender balance across the world.

Communicare celebrated at a WACOSS breakfast with likeminded women; revelling in the achievement of women leaders in the not-for-profit sector.

Our CEO, Melissa Perry, Executive Director People, Culture and Brand, Mas Bianchi, Director Children, Families and Community, Robyn Antenucci, Tender Writer, Ilana Rohwedder and; HIPPY Coordinator, Nola Earnshaw, joined some of WA's most influential women.

Keynote speaker, the Hon. Simone McGurk MLA, Minister for Child Protection, Women's Interests, Prevention of Family and Domestic Violence and Community Services, along with Justine Colyer, CEO of RISE, spoke about leadership and the role of women in the public sector, sharing stories of women persevering through the restrictions of women's rights.

From grassroots activism to Parliamentary action, Simone and Justine both highlighted the achievements of the feminist movement but also noted that more work stilll needs to be done.

At Communicare, we support some of the most vulnerable people in our community and many of them are women and; due to the nature of the work that we do a high proportion of our workforce are women so the topic was extremely relevant to our organisation.
