We're lifting our children and young people during this week that exists to care, protect and celebrate them – and one young person who's left a lasting impression on Communicare's CEO Melissa Perry is year 11 Communicare Academy student, Mason Saunders.

The theme for National Children Protection Week is 'Putting Children First' - reaffirming the importance in having their voices heard, particularly in circumstances and situations that matter to them.

Last week CEO Melissa visited our Communicare Academy, participated in school proceedings and spent time in conversation with Mason going over some of his favourite things about the Communicare Academy as well as areas that could be improved, focussing on the school internet and curriculum.

Passionate about Information Technology (IT) and Politics, Mason not only shared his vast insightful outlook on the world but the two also developed an action plan on how his suggestions could be carried through in future.

Within all the work we do, we aim to ensure we're enhancing the experiences and outcomes of the children and young people we service – and part of doing this is including children in discussions that directly impact them.

By opening opportunities and creating safe spaces for children and young people like Mason to express themselves, we're demonstrating our ability to preserve their interest, safety and development whilst encouraging them to reach their full potential.
