Today our Settle In program hosted their inaugural youth consultation to provide newly arrived young people from multicultural backgrounds an opportunity to connect with each other and to learn more about our Settle In and Get Active Project programs.
13 participants aged 14 to 24 were welcomed into an open and supportive environment as the day followed with group meetings and interactive exercises discussing and exchanging personal stories, trials and triumphs commonly faced.
The day began with Shout Out Youth Leader, David Mugisha, sharing his settlement experience including his method for establishing connections once arriving in Australia and additional valuable advice which greatly resonated with our guests.
The focal point of his message required participants to analyse their current situation, desires and goals they envisioned for themselves as well as their plans to achieve that.
We were particularly encouraged by the first hand insights offered from the participant's suggestions on how we could holistically deliver the support they seek through our services.
All in all the event was a hit and we look forward to establishing more friendships and support frameworks for newly arrived immigrants through future youth centred activities and targeted support services.
