Matt’s Story

Four-year-old Matt had joined our Home Interaction Program for Parents and Youngsters (HIPPY) program in 2021. HIPPY is a free, play-based program that supports parents to better understand their child’s development and learning style, and helps develop their child’s language, numbers, listening and thinking skills. Believing our program could help Matt to communicate, our HIPPY Coordinator engaged with his mum to discuss the program with her and to encourage her to enrol. At first, she wasn’t sure.

Matt would get so frustrated by not being able to get his words out that he would bang his head on the closest thing to him. After several months of being involved with HIPPY, Matt started saying a few words. He continued to progress and is now talking so much. The entire family, including his siblings, sit and do the HIPPY activities together. His Mum said Matt absolutely loves his HIPPY activities.

Matt’s mum attributes his progress to being part of the HIPPY program. She has told us how the whole family has grown, are communicating more, and are learning everywhere, every day. Matt graduated from HIPPY in late 2022.
