Counselling for at-risk young people and their families

Building a Balance is a strength-based program for at-risk young people and their families. Taking a person-centred approach, Building a Balance helps young people experiencing relationship or personal problems through counselling and meditation services.

The free counselling program empowers families, improves their communication skills, increases their self-awareness and helps them to engage in positive behaviours and activities. The program is provides up to 15 individual therapy sessions over the course of up to 6 months. Young people and their families are assisted to build on their skills and abilities, resolve conflict and find solutions to problems through discussion and mutual agreement.

Our program staff collaboratively develop a support plan with the young person that including achievable goals and strategies to assist them achieve those goals. Young people are also supported to connect or reconnect with their school, family, peers, other support services and community networks.

Building a Balance is funded by the Government of Western Australia Department of Communities – Child Protection and Family Support.
